Part-time External Affairs and Development Manager

BACKGROUND

Cry Havoc Theater Company’s mission is to create provocative theatre with young people and, in doing so, to challenge audience expectations of what youth theatre can be. Cry Havoc fulfills its mission by creating original theatre with teens around issues of social justice and engaging the community in dialogue on the plays we create. The company was recently awarded the 2018 National Community Impact Award from TYA/USA, and the company’s most recent verbatim theatre piece about guns in America, Babel, was named one of the best new plays in Dallas by the D-FW Theater Critics Forum.

 

POSITION OVERVIEW

Cry Havoc Theater Company seeks a highly organized, self-motivated individual with impeccable people skills to support the organization’s growing development, communications, and community engagement activities. Reporting directly to the Founder and Artistic Director, the Manager will be responsible for developing and maintaining programs to communicate in an appropriate context and timely manner the projects, purposes and activities of the organization to the public and to the various stakeholders.

This position is part-time (20-25 hours per week). In the fall of 2019, the position is anticipated to become full-time. The right person will help to shape the trajectory of this position in the coming year.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES

  • Bachelor’s degree with 2–3 years of previous, high-level administrative experience

  • Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills

  • Experience with macOS, G Suite, fundraising software (such as Bloomerang) and project management programs

  • Ability to multitask while prioritizing workload to ensure deadlines are met

  • Willingness and ability to work extended hours during peak periods, including occasional nights and weekends as needed

  • Passion for building a safer and more equitable world

  • Experience in community organizing and/or the arts, and fluency in Spanish are all considered assets. Individuals from historically marginalized groups are strongly encouraged to apply.

 PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Development Cultivation and Stewardship (70%)

  • Cultivate and steward individual donors and board members through all applicable forms of communication

  • Support the Founder and Artistic Director in all stewardship activities for corporate, and foundation partners

  • Serve as designated support person on all fundraising campaigns and special events

  • Maintain all donor and funder files and database

  • Craft and disseminate program information to key stakeholders

  • Supervise interns, as needed

  • Other duties as assigned

Communications & Branding (30%)

  • Develop and execute a strategy for building company brand through social media and new media

  • Work closely with the Founder and Artistic Director to develop, create, and regularly disseminate communication pieces that tell Cry Havoc’s story (i.e. newsletters and other public materials)

  • Ensure funder recognition across all public-facing materials, including website, newsletter, programs and print collateral

  • Represent Cry Havoc Theater Company at offsite community events, as needed

  • Other duties as assigned
